As much as I love Clarks I have to give this particular shoe a bad review. They look fantastic as long as your pants cover the deep black trim which clashes with the sort-of dusty looking color of the leather. The uppers seem tough and are nice-looking. However, the sole of the shoe is wimpy, without the substance and support for which I look to Clarks. They feel great just to try on, but I don’t think I could walk comfortably in these Clarks Vauxhal shoes for even one day. This is an extremely comfortable pump, as expected. Everything is great except that the leather-covered heel is easily damaged. Within my first few wears, I tore the leather a bit on the inside of both heels and now the shoe looks worn. As I wear the shoe I will have to have this repaired on an ongoing basis. A bit frustrating when you buy shoes at this price, but I guess to some degree it is unavoidable wear and tear. I would prefer an alternative to the leather-covered heel. Once broken in . . . I love the look of this sandal; however, the thong part really HURT the first couple of times I wore the shoe and caused my skin to rub away. This was a disappointment to me since I have been wearing Minnetonka’s for many years now. After the skin between my toes healed, I covered the thong part with a band aid so I could wear the shoes. Now that I’ve worn them a few times since, they are more comfortable and I was even able to remove the band aid. The leather at the thong is rigid and has a seam that rubs in between the toes. I have a friend who bought this same sandal and she said the same thing. Yet they are so pretty! Warning – not a safety shoe! On the inside of the shoe is a label reading; “NON-SAFETY FOOTWEAR”. The tag attached to the shoe goes on to warn you again that they are not safety shoes. Do not assume that because they have a steel toe they are a safety shoe. They are not ANSI rated and if you are required by your employer, as I am, to wear ANSI rated safety shoes on the job, these are not what you need. I didn’t think they were that comfortable either, but in fairness, I am not keeping them long enough to break them in. If for some reason you just want a heavy non-safety shoe with a steel toe and “clownish” looking toe, these may be just what you’re looking for. Why not just buy the same thing without the steel toe? Zappos is the best place online to get shoes, with their fast shipping and easy return policy. So thanks to Zappos but these shoes will have to go back. The uncomfortable break in period is worth it. Looks very professional and dressy. Unfortunately these types of shoes simply aren’t that comfortable in the beginning, which was expected. Rubber soles give more so the break in period of the leather uppers is shorter. All shoes that start out comfortable, unfortunately, don’t look as sharp nor do they last as long. I know folks who have had the same Cole Haans for 10 years with resoling. You can’t really do that with rubber soles. After the break in period it should be fine. What I really liked was the ability to get wide width in the styles I sought. That is almost impossible to do in department stores. And it was cheaper! I LOVE THIS SHOE!!! This truly is the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever owned…I’m a kindergarten teacher, and after recovering from a stress fracture, I needed a fashionable, yet comfortable shoe.
